September 5th Update:

Our Outdoor Worship went well and we are ready to open this up weekly!

With the beautiful weather, we feel that we have a short amount of time to worship together outside before it starts to get cold.

Starting this Sunday, September 6, we will be holding outdoor worship EVERY SUNDAY at 9:30 am. for the month of September. We will send an email around 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning if we need to cancel due to weather. That would bring our worship indoors, which only allows us a small amount of people to attend.

We will be live streaming the services again on Facebook Live (hopefully our connections keep) but you can still obtain the recordings in the afternoons on Sunday at www.adventwestminster.org if you would prefer.

God’s Work, Our Hand Project is a Community Food Drive – We will be collecting food on Saturday, Sept 12th from 9 AM to 3 PM.

The collected food will be given to Growing Home Food Bank which has been distributing 12 Tons or more of food a week. We want to bring in a truckload of food, so we need to publicize it well to our members and the community.  We really need your support to make this project successful.

Items most needed:

Canned Vegetables—especially Corn, Tomatoes, and Mixed Vegetables

Spaghetti Sauce

Canned Beans

Canned Fruit

Macaroni & Cheese

Canned Soup

Canned Chicken

Canned Tuna

We will place a 2 x 6 banner on 80th, distribute flyers in nearby neighborhoods, post on Next Door and Facebook.  If you follow us on Facebook, please share the post.

But we also want church members to participate by encouraging their families, friends, and neighbors to donate too.  You can collect it from them prior to Saturday if these people do not live close to the church.  Then church members can bring what they have gathered from family, friends, and neighbors to church on the day we are collecting.

We will collect the food on a Saturday but not transport it until the following Monday when volunteers are staffed at the MAC where Growing Home warehouses food donations.

We have flyers with all the information available in the little library and attached digitally to this email.  If you want your family and friends to bring items to you rather than the church – there’s ample space after the items needed list to add a personal note saying that.

We can use volunteers to help with the flyer distribution to nearby neighborhoods and on the day of food collection.  We also need volunteers with pickup truck(s) on Monday to help transport the food to the MAC.  Please let us know if you are willing to help.  Contact Joan or Tom LaRose, if you need flyers.

August 20th Update:

Get Excited because our Outdoor Worship + Welcoming Vicar Paul will be next Saturday, August 29th at 5 pm. It's also a Jubilee Sunday, which is a great time to catch up on your pledges or give a little extra.  Final details and information will come out next Thursday. We look forward to worshipping together!

Given our circumstance, you may not get a chance to meet our new Vicar Paul Larson, so we went ahead and had him answer some questions so you can get to know a little more about him!  Vicar Paul Interview

A message from the Finance Committee:

Thank you for your unwavering support of our work together!  Building on a quote from our Treasurer: we are "so pleased to report that our income has remained steady during these unsteady times." General fund giving through June and July was at or slightly above budget allowing us to meet all financial obligations including Synod Benevolence. The Seventh Day Adventists, Silver Strings and Cocaine Addicts Anonymous continued their financial contributions. We continue to monitor expenses closely and remain under budget for the year.

Looking ahead, we have accrued enough eligible expenses to apply for full forgiveness of the Paycheck Protection Program loan we received in May and will begin this process in the next few weeks. Given the immediate and long term need to strengthen our online and social media outreach, we made a recommendation to the Advent Council to allocate up to $3,000 to fund a social media/technology coordinator for the remainder of this year. The Council agreed that this amount is well within our budget for the year and approved the recommendation at their meeting on August 11th. The Stewardship team plans to include this position as a ministry initiative for the 2021 budget.

Again thank you for your continued support as we work together to strengthen our ministry in these challenging times.

Respectfully, Advent Finance Team

From the Social Outreach Team:

Thank you to everyone who donated school supplies! We collected and filled three big boxes of supplies.
