June 1st Update:

Happy Monday All!

The June calendar for lists events we have going on "here" at Advent. You will notice that most of these events happen online, via Zoom or Facebook Live. For Zoom meetings, you will need login info to attend. Please send me an email requesting this so I can send over to you.

For the Women's Bible Study tomorrow, this is in your home, not online. The study is entitled  JUST LOVE "IN THE FAMILY: WHAT'S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT?" How are we held accountable for loving in just ways within family systems?

Also, I have included a list of June birthdays on the 2nd page of the document. If you don't see yourself on there and would like to be included, please let me know.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you!

3. Keep sending in pictures of your home worship areas. We love to see the space that you are joining us from on Sundays and using while the church building is closed.

May 28th Update:

This coming Sunday is Pentecost. The tradition is to wear red if you are watching. Please send us a picture of you in your red attire so we can post it on our website and social media channels!

1. Please continue to send us pictures of your worship area in your home. We would love to see where you are worshipping along with us on Sundays!

3. This Saturday's email will not only include the bulletins, but will also include a June calendar with the events we have currently happening next month.

4. The third round of surveys will be coming to you here shortly. These are extremely important for our Corona Response Team to view the information and see where the areas of concern lie amongst the congregation. There will be a question about outdoor worship potentially happening this summer and it is important to let us know your feedback so we can see if there is a great interest in holding service outside.

5. We have enough items for about 35 care packages for the nurses at Clear Creek Care Center! Thank you!! :-) But there are 100 nurses, so we still need to collect enough items for 65 more packages. There are three ways to help if you are willing and able: (1) buy the items at the store and leave them in the brown box between the two sheds at church, (2) buy them online and send them to Joan LaRose's house (address in the directory), or (3) send a check to the church and write 'care package' in the item line. We hope to donate these in the first week of June, so if you could donate the items by May 31st, that would be greatly appreciated! The items we're collecting are:

  • candy/small packets of cookies

  • powder to put into bottled water to give it flavor

  • travel-sized bottles of lotion

  • travel-sized bath products (essential oils, salts, etc.)

  • comics/things to make them laugh

  • hot chocolate/tea packets

  • granola bars

  • chapstick/lip balm

  • $5 gift cards

ONE MORE THOUGHT...

As we work through these interesting, challenging, aggravating, unprecedented, and highly annoying times, we are reminded that being followers of Jesus never gets boring if you're paying attention.  I miss seeing and hugging all of you terribly.  These times are calling us to explore new ways to be together.  Sadly, these times are not going to change any time soon.  We are listening to the advice of the Church and government authorities and it is clear that in our closed in Sanctuary, it is not likely we will be able to gather in person for quite a while. The CRT team (Coronavirus Response Team) is exploring the possibility of planning an outdoor worship experience sometime in June.  In everything that we do we are foremost considering how it affects the most vulnerable people that we love and want to protect.  I would love to hear suggestions or thoughts from all of you on how we can stay connected.  You can get messages directly to me at my email address:  adventpastor7979@gmail.com

I have one suggestion I'd like to share with all of you.  I am going to create a place in my house that is going to be designated for prayer and worship.  Of course for most of our worships I am at the church with the production team.  But last week when I took a Sunday off, I watched the worship with all of you.  It occurred to me that one of the things I was missing was the presence of symbols and visual reminders of God's grace in the place I was worshiping.  In my home I am going to create a "Chapel" that has the feel of being away from the busyness of every day life in my home.  Sometime this week I will take a picture of it and send it to you.  I am hoping you will do the same.  Make a space, take a picture and send it to the church.  We will share it through our web site and Facebook.  Then, when you are home watching worship you will have a place to go.  Have your bread and wine or grape juice there and ready.  Maybe a bowl of water that reminds you of your baptism.  It gives the old concept of "House Church" a whole new meaning.  My house is only about 1000 square feet.  I still think I can find a "holy" space.  And after 26 years of ministry I have more physical spiritual symbols than I will ever need, so if you'd like a cross or other symbol please let me know, I'll get things to you.  This is our chance to take the call to always make a place for Jesus in our lives literal.  Will you join me?

As always I am so touched and lifted up by the amount of time and effort all of you are putting in.  I rarely get much time to feel depressed because one of you steps up and bowls me over with your generosity and creativity.  I am so proud to be a part of this community, so THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.  I am so glad to be ... with you on the Journey, Pastor Barb

A note about communion from Susan and Kevin Panko:

Since worshiping remotely, Kevin and I have enjoyed preparing and celebrating Holy Communion.  I set this up on the dining room table Saturday night.  We took Pastor Barb and Aimee’s request to make the Lord’s Last Supper special. It was suggested to use your best platter or something important to you.  We purchased a Shabbat Shalom Challah Cover (from Amazon) to place over the bread.  We have a small glass decanter which we pour an individual bottle of red wine.  We use small wine glasses for us.  During Communion, we break the bread, bless the bread and wine following Pastor’s guidance.  We give each other communion and are grateful to share the Eucharist during this challenging time.  God Bless you!

A message from the Lutheran Chorale:

It may have become obvious that the Lutheran Chorale spring 2020 concert schedule has been cancelled.  So we will not be performing at Atonement Lutheran Church or Wheat Ridge Lutheran Church on Sunday May 17 at 3:00 pm or 7:30 pm.

Hopefully, the continued work of the inspired scientists and physicians, and our Lord’s blessing and guidance of their efforts can speed our worlds delivery from this plague. Holding out hope that this will transpire in the coming months we will plan on gathering again in the fall to sing a concert of Thanksgiving. Please visit our web page to get information on our 2020-2021 concert season.  www.thelutheranchorale.org  Or if you would like to join us by singing contact David Peterson at thelutheranchorale@comcast.net.

Gentle Yoga:

For those who have done yoga at Advent with Robyn, the summer schedule is May 4th - August 31st every Monday from 4-5 p.m. (no classes on May 25th and June 29th). If interested, please contact Robyn directly at 720-771-3403 or email: eyeonhealth@gmail.com. These classes are not being held in person currently, but they are available via Zoom. Please reach out to Robyn directly for more information.

To make you smile: My mom sent this to me via Facebook and it was just too cute not to share.

Miss seeing everyone's faces!

May 7th Updates and Information:

1. We are putting together care packages for the 100 or so nurses/staff at Clear Creek Care Center. They have taken good care of our Advent members in the past and so we are looking to return the good will. We are looking for the following items to put in the care packages:

  • candy/small packets of cookies

  • powder to put into bottled water to give it some flavor

  • little/travel-sized bottles of lotion

  • trial/travel-sized bath products (essential oils, salts, etc.)

  • comics/things to make them laugh

  • hot chocolate/tea packets

  • $5 gift cards

  • granola bars

  • chap stick/lip balm

If you want to donate anything else you think they'd appreciate, please make sure it's a small item as the gift bags are not very big. You can drop off your donations in the same place food bank donations go (in the big brown box between the two sheds on the south side of the church).

2. Please continue to make sure that your checks have cleared with Advent. We continue to deposit weekly time should not be a factor. Since we are relying on the postal service to deliver these (instead of being able to physically put them into the offering plate yourselves) we want to make sure nothing is missed on our end. Also, if you continue to drop your checks off at the church, please MAKE SURE to put them in the black mailbox located near parking lot since it is locked and will stay secure until we grab it. If there are any discrepancies, please let Natalie know.

3. We have masks! And please continue to make them! If you need a mask, let Natalie know and if you would like to drop them off, you can leave them in the storage container between the two back sheds OR in the Little Library.

4. If you would like to borrow a hymnal for Sunday worship, you can find them in the Little Library. Please return when you are finished.

A great video with a different perspective on what is happening in our world. Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nw5KQMXDiM4
