Radio Players

The heart of the ministry of the Advent Radio Players is the giving of joy and happiness to our audiences through re-acting of old-time radio programs.

Radio Players is currently on hiatus until it is safe to meet in person again.

Two wonderful half hour radio plays were presented On December 15, 2019 with a 15-minute intermission in between.  The first play was a “Father Knows Best” Christmas program.  It is a warm family adventure by the Anderson family that reminds us that we need to remember what is most important at this special time of year. The second play was “The Little Town of Bethlehem,” a First Nighter Program that tells the story of Jesus’s birth in dramatic form.

Last spring, the Radio Players performed two half hour old time radio comedy broadcasts on Friday, April 5th at 6:30 at San Marino and Sunday, April 7th at 2pm at Advent.  The first was an Our Miss Brooks episode “Easter Egg Dye” and the second was a Great Gildersleeve “Easter Sunrise Service”.  The audience enjoyed both greatly and it put everyone in the Easter mood.

The Advent Radio Players staged their holiday radio play on Sunday, December 9th at 2 p.m. at Advent Lutheran Church in Westminster and at The Villas at San Marino in Westminster on Friday, December 7th at 6:30 p.m.  They performed the timeless classic Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" with Ebenezer Scrooge live as it was originally broadcast on December 24th, 1939 on the CBS Campbell Playhouse featuring Orson Welles as the Narrator and Lionel Barrymore as Scrooge.

In addition, the Radio Players enabled the installation of an insert in the fireplace in the Fireside Lounge this fall.  Special thanks to Fred and JoAnn Bantin for their continued involvement and support of the Advent Radio Players.

Advent Radio Players presented the radio comedy, “The Aldrich Family”

at Advent Lutheran Church on April 22, 2018 . The Aldrich Family

was the tale of two high school buddies, Henry and his friend,

Homer, and Henry’s family, father Sam and mother Alice.

The heart of the show was the problems Henry

encountered as he went about his daily way.

In 2017, two productions were staged: A Sherlock Holmes mystery "The Adventure of the Iron Box" and the Christmas classic "Miracle on 34th Street".  These were performed both at Advent Lutheran Church and at San Marino Retirement Center to delighted audiences.
